On 28 October 2025, the Institute of Science Tokyo invited Prof. Kathleen Kramer, IEEE President, and held a Dedication Ceremony for two IEEE Milestones, where Prof. Nishihara served as MC. The first IEEE Milestone is entitled “Single-Mode Semiconductor Laser for Long Wave-Length Optical Fiber Communication” by Prof. Yasuhara Suematsu, and the second one “Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser” by Prof. Kenichi Iga.
