6U-HAPPIER held Innovative Teaching Workshop by Prof. Roderick Smith of Imperial College London at Hokkaido University. Ten young Assistant Professors attended from 6 member Universitis.

Prof. Nishihara was interviewed by Prof. Kojiro Nishimiya, IEEE Japan Council Young Professionals Coordinator, for IEEE Japan YP Newsletter No.2 (in Japanese) published September 2018 in the ”On-the-spot Interview to IEEE volunteers”, together with Prof. Toshio Fukuda, Prof. Yutaka Ishibashi, and Prof. Takuo Suzuki.
IEEE Region 10 SYWL Congress was held in Bali, Indonesia, during 30 August – 2 September 2018 (SYWL stands for Students, Young Professionals, Women in Engineering, and Life Members). Prof. Nishihara first gave a talk on “Ethics in Publishing” in Student Track. Then he moved to YP Track to be interviewed on “Expectations of SYWL in Next 2 Years”. On 1 September he served as a panelist in plenary Panel Discussion “How to Bridge the Gap between Academia, Industry, and Government” together with Jim Jeffries, IEEE President.
