IEEE Japan Sections 60th Anniversary Celebration
On 3 March 2017 IEEE Japan Sections 60th Anniversary Celebration was held at Chiba Institute of Technology. IEEE Tokyo Section was inaugurated on 6 February 1956 as IRE Tokyo Section. It became IEEE Tokyo Section by the merger of IRE and AIEE in 1963. The Section covered entire Japan, but like Sections in the U.S., we used the city name. In 1998, Sapporo, Sendai, Nagoya, Kansai, Hiroshima, Shikoku, and Fukuoka Sections were established, and in 2006 Shin-Etsu Section was formed, and now Tokyo Section covers Kanto area (Tokyo and surroundings).
