第28回アジア南太平洋設計自動化会議の一環として行われた授賞式で西原教授がIEEE Board of Directorsを代表してGustav Robert Kirchhoff賞を授与しました。京都大学名誉教授の上田睆亮教授は，電子回路におけるカオス現象の発見と非線形力学の発展への貢献により，Gustav Robert Kirchhoff賞を受賞されました。
